Oak tree in a field with spider webs as the first rays of the sun begin to dispel the ground fog – near Castricum, NL

These moments go by very quickly, one minute at most when it looked just right from this spot. I had been waiting in that misty field for about an hour, with visibility sometimes not more than thirty feet, before the sun disk finally appeared above the tree line spreading its rays through the branches and – with Serendipity as stage manager – lighting some carefully chosen leaves, grasses and spider webs.

During that hour I had constantly been scanning the few clouds and the tree line at the horizon for the first golden rim and other signs of sunrise. Before I could make an occasional exposure I had to wipe my lens and eyepiece clean of condensation again.

Only a photograph can show it as a timeless world.[1]
